Real Love

By John T. Marck

One year after the completion of Free As A Bird, by The Beatles, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr went back to the studio in Sussex, England, and completed an unfinished recording written by John Lennon titled Real Love. What was done was new vocal and instrumental tracks were added to Lennon's original to further enrich his original cassette recording.

To the best of my knowledge, Lennon recorded six takes of Real Love. Lennon originally conceived this song to be included as part of his "The Ballad of John and Yoko" recordings. In Take 1, Lennon combined his Real Love with Baby Make Love To You. Take 4 was a series of acoustic demos. Again, through the magic and wonder of recording production, The Beatles came together again, for and with, Real Love.

Like Free As A Bird, Real Love was issued on The Beatles Anthology II, on CD and vinyl, as well as a vinyl and CD single. On the CD single, it was placed with The Beatles recordings of Baby's In Black; Yellow Submarine (complete version); and Here, There and Everywhere.

All my little plans and schemes, lost like some forgotten dreams,

seems that all I really was doing, was waiting for you.

Just like little girls and boys, playing with their little toys.

Seems like all they really were doing, was waiting for love.

Don't need to be alone, no need to be alone.

It's real love, it's real, yes it's real love, it's real.

From this moment on I know, exactly where my life will go.

Seems that all I really was doing, was waiting for love.

Don't need to be afraid, no need to be afraid.

It's real love, it's real, yes it's real love, it's real.

Thought I'd been in love before, but in my heart, I wanted more.

Seems like all I really was doing, was waiting for you.

Don't need to be alone, don't need to be alone.

It's real love, it's real, it's real love, it's real,

yes it's real love, it's real. It's real love, it's real,

yes it's real love, it's real, it's real love, it's real.

Yes it's real love, it's real, it's real love, it's real.
